‘How to Survive the Cyprus Heat,

A Hands-on Experience’

  • Would you like to learn how to protect yourself in the intense Cyprus heat by experimenting with herbs and plants?
  • If you are between 14 and 17 years old, join us to experience the opportunity to explore the world of herbs and plants of Cyprus, specifically tailored to combat the summer heat.
  • The workshop will take place on Saturday 18 May 2024, in the inter-communal space of the Ledra Palace hotel.

Within the framework of the EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth, UWC Cyprus is organising this hands-on workshop led by an expert curator who will teach participants about the therapeutic properties of herbs and plants native to Cyprus, and guide them in crafting cooling recipes for the body, including food and beverages. During this workshop, participants will also have a chance to create skin products suitable for summer to soothe and protect, in the overall aim of fostering a deeper connection with Cypriot nature, whilst emphasising the healing power of the environment.

If you are aged between 14-17 years old, we invite you to join us and:

  • Explore the world of herbs and plants specific to Cyprus
  • Engage through hands-on crafting sessions over three working stations offering 9 fun recipes
  • Learn how to utilise local herbs and plants effectively to combat the summer heat.
  • Gain a deeper appreciation for the local flora and its significance in traditional healing practice

Workshop description

The workshop will consist of a brief introduction and demonstration of the group activities that will take place by our expert curator. There will be three “stations” in the venue, each with a set of recipes (skin, body, food and drinks). Each group will have a set time at each station to complete the activity before rotating to another station. By the end of the event, participants will have successfully participated in all activities. Each team will be provided with a set of materials for each activity and after the conclusion of the activities, participants will enjoy the cooling food and beverages they prepare together!

The workshop is funded by the European Union and is taking place in the framework of the EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth at UWC
