How to survive the Cyprus heat - A hands on experience

‘How to Survive the Cyprus Heat,

A Hands-on Experience’

Within the framework of the EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth, UWC Cyprus is organised this hands-on workshop led by an expert curator who taught participants about the therapeutic properties of herbs and plants native to Cyprus, and guided them in crafting cooling recipes for the body, including food and beverages. During this workshop, participants also had the chance to create skin products suitable for summer to soothe and protect, in the overall aim of fostering a deeper connection with Cypriot nature, whilst emphasising the healing power of the environment.

Aged between 14-17 years old, participants were invited to join us to:

  • Explore the world of herbs and plants specific to Cyprus
  • Engage through hands-on crafting sessions over three working stations offering 9 fun recipes
  • Learn how to utilise local herbs and plants effectively to combat the summer heat.
  • Gain a deeper appreciation for the local flora and its significance in traditional healing practice
Workshop description

The workshop consisted of a brief introduction and demonstration of the group activities that took place by our expert curator. There were three “stations” in the venue, each with a set of recipes (skin, body, food and drinks). Each group had a set time at each station to complete the activity before rotating to another station. By the end of the event, participants successfully participated in all activities. Each team were provided with a set of materials for each activity and after the conclusion of the activities, participants enjoyed the cooling food and beverages they prepared together!

The workshop was funded by the European Union and is took place in the framework of the EU Scholarship Programme for Cypriot Youth at UWC
