Overview:
Are you ready to embark on a transformative journey with the UWC Cyprus residential short course for 2024, "Diversity in Action - Youth Have a Voice"?

Over the course of 10 days, we'll bring together 40 passionate youth from Cyprus, Europe, and the Eastern Mediterranean to empower them as active citizens for a harmonious and sustainable future. Building upon the success of our previous courses, this year's programme is dedicated to amplifying the voices of youth, honing their communication and advocacy skills, and cultivating their understanding as informed and engaged citizens in today's digital and diverse world.

Participants:
Open to youth aged 15 to 17 from across Europe and the Mediterranean regions, with a special emphasis on bridging divides. Applications are encouraged from regions including Ireland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, and Croatia.

Course Eligibility: 

  • You must be between 15 and 17 years old at the time of the short course. 
  • You are from and/or live in Cyprus, Europe or Eastern Mediterranean.
  • You are able and comfortable speaking and understanding English in order to follow the course.
  • You are ready to commit to the course activities between 8-18 of July. For those who are traveling to the island please consider additional travel days. 

Delivery Team:
Led by experienced coordinators, facilitators, and guest speakers, our dedicated team is committed to providing a nurturing environment for personal growth and development. Through a blend of workshops, activities, and engagements, we aim to foster holistic growth, including mental, emotional, and physical well-being.

Venues:
Nestled in the serene surroundings of Droushia village, the Palates Hotel offers an exclusive setting for our participants. Surrounded by nature and immersed in a culturally rich environment, attendees will have access to local field trips and beaches, fostering a perfect balance of outdoor exploration and learning opportunities.

     

Community Engagement:
Integral to our programme is engagement with the local community of Droushia. Participants will interact with local organizations, changemakers, and strategic partners, gaining inspiration for their own endeavors and experiencing firsthand the power of collective action.

Theme:
Centered around "Diversity in Action," our programme emphasizes experiential learning in communication, critical thinking, and civic engagement. Participants will uncover their voices, learning to navigate misinformation and contribute positively to their communities through inclusive dialogue and mutual understanding.

Objectives:

  • Empower youth to articulate their ideas effectively.
  • Cultivate critical thinking skills to discern truth from misinformation.
  • Encourage active civic engagement and social responsibility.
  • Foster intercultural understanding and collaboration.
  • Develop leadership skills grounded in cooperation and empathy.
  • Promote positive common experiences among diverse youth.

Educational Programme:
The 10-day programme, taking place from 8 to 18 July in Droushia Village, includes workshops, discussions, field trips, and community service projects, all conducted in English. The course fee is fully funded by the European Union, ensuring accessibility for all successful applicants.
